Review of L'Atalante (1934) by Zack M — 28 Oct 2011
This is a truly engaging love story, and an excellent farewell film by Jean Vigo, and has subsequently influenced countless filmmakers. Without this film, I doubt there would be any "Breathless".
What's truly remarkable about this film is the authenticity of the characters and their environment. It's gorgeously shot, and flawlessly acted. It lives up to its reputation of being a landmark early talkie film.
