Review of Last Tango in Paris (1972) by Rupert W — 23 Oct 2007
Graphic, yes. Sensual, sure. Beautiful? Most definitely. The urgencies of the human beast are evocatively explored as two strangers, an American widower and a young Frenchwoman meet in a derelict Parisian flat.
From the moment they first meet they begin an unusual tense physical relationship. This is not a film about love, but about urgency and desire. Not a perfect film, but it has its moments of pure cinematic beauty.
