(1972) Last Tango In Paris.
EROTIC DRAMA.
To some it's one of those great films about a husband making attempts to get over his wife's suicide by continually making out with a French escort played by Maria Schneider in which film critics Roger Ebert gave it 4 stars out of 4 and Leonard Maltin giving it 3 and a half out of 4, but if you're watching it for pure enjoyment, I don't find anything entertaining to see an wrinkled up overweight man (I don't care whether or not he's the greatest actor on earth) making out with a mediocre French actress with hairy armpits. At the time it was labelled as a controversial film at the time of it's release in 1972 for it's explicit make out scenes branding it an "X" rating for obvious reasons but tame now these days considering what we can get now. Now, I like to see Marlon Brando act but I have to say there's some thing's best left behind closed doors since looking at him reminds me of many unsensitive old men sunbathing on a beach. And upon reading Klaus Kinski's journals(published by Penguin) one of the parts I remembered was him mentioning about his personal working experience working with Maria Schneider who does nothing except gloat about making out with Marlon Brando which doesn't sound like someone who is experienced.
2 out of 4 stars.
