Review of Last Tango in Paris (1972) by Knut N — 06 Jan 2008
So, yeah, some of the love scenes are overdone and squeam-inducing--the movie sometimes feels like it was created specifically for the sex, but underneath this is actually a rather sad look into some pretty broken characters.
Not so much Schneider, but Brando is amazing; the speech he gives to his dead wife is awe-inspiring. The movie really belongs to him, and proves that, when he tried, he could raise schlock to genuine art.
