Review of Last Tango in Paris (1972) by Ryan V — 14 Apr 2012
This raw and unrestrained movie stars Marlon Brando as Paul, a middle-aged American who has come to Paris in order to bury his suicidal wife. While there, he begins a tempestuous sexual affair with Jeanne, a much younger French woman who is dissatisfied with her current life.
The brutal, kinky, and aggressive relationship between the two has caused many to label Last Tango in Paris as pornography posing as art-house cinema. However, I firmly believe that the amazing performances from the key actors makes this film a major classic.
The scene where Paul delivers a speech to his wife's corpse is, in my opinion, one of Marlon Brando's greatest feats as a thespian.
