Review of Laid to Rest (2009) by Rick V — 05 Jan 2011
Laid to Rest is a very fun movie. It is a blatant love letter to the slasher horror movies of yesteryear and in that sense in succeeds indefinitely. Along with that it may be the smartest slasher film ever made.
Everything the characters do seems logical. This is not something commonly found in slasher films and I found it very interesting who well Laid to Rest pulls it off. Speaking of the characters, I also think Laid to Rest had me the most attached I have ever been to a cast of characters for a slasher film.
I began to care for the people on screen and in the end was hoping they'd make it out alive. Laid to Rest does an excellent job developing these characters and just when we think we've learned everything about them another twist is thrown our way.
Lastly the killer in Laid to Rest is portrayed very well. He seems like a believable killer in some aspects but in others not so much. I found it hard to predict what he would do next and I enjoyed that aspect very much.
In the end Laid to Rest has joined my list of favorite slasher films. It tries to do many things and ultimately pulls most of them off. The only downsides I found were some questionable editing and the occasional shoddy acting.
I enjoyed Laid to Rest very much and I highly recommend it to fans of the slasher film genre.
