Review of Laid to Rest (2009) by Chase F — 20 Oct 2009
Ok I went into this expecting another boring slasher flick, the trailer was good but like ost slasher flims, I thought that they had shown most of the good stuff in the trailer. BOY WAS I WRONG. Though this didnt haave a really strong story (mind you what horror movie does really?) the great acting and the special fx make up for it.
WARNING SPOILERS!!!!
Since Deep Blue sea when Renny Harlin killed off his most famous star halfway through the movie, many horror have dispatched the celebrity not long after the film begins. This is no exception, Lena Headley, Richard Lynch and Jonathon Schrach all get bumped off in a really gruesome fashion within the first 15 minutes, leaving the non familar stars to carry the rest of the movie. Which I have to say they do fairly well. The atmosphere in the movie is intense and it isn't long before the gore and claret start flying. The only gripe I have with this movie is the fact that you never found out who the killer was. Was he some screwed up cop who was on a crusade? Was he a crazy loony psycho escaped from a mental instution or was he a undertaker? It's really a twisted mystery at the heart of the film but the awesome gore brings it back to being a top notch horror movie. It is violent, it is gruesome, it is vicious but it's one hell of a horror movie. If you love horror, see this and marvel at the top notch special effects.
