Review of Lagerfeld Confidential (2007) by I-Chun L — 28 Jan 2008
Though not exactly a fan of haute couture, I was nevertheless keen to watch "Lagerfeld Confidential" because I once owned a Karl Lagerfeld cocktail dress which I wore for my high school prom some 20 years ago. That was the first and last time I bought a designer-label dress :P.
This French documentary gives a glimpse of Lagerfeld behind his trademark sunglasses. I was surprised to find the fashion icon - who turns 70 this year - as a rather sensible and witty person, unlike the eccentric or egoistic prima donna I imagined him to be. I was also very impressed with his immense talents - both in fashion design and photography. It's amazing how some of his best fashion show concepts came from dreams (his "noir" fashion show blew me away).
I found the film to be interesting, but a bit too long.
