Review of Lady in the Water (2006) by Jonathan G — 14 Apr 2012
A beautiful movie with a simple meaning, finding our purpose - our Story. Finding that purpose perhaps in people, places and events - we might have never realized or considered; in order to tell the role of our Story. Our Story cannot be judged or criticized by others, (as depicted in the film, regarding the 'know-it-all' film critic'); because it is our own unique Story. Like the main character in the film, Cleveland; fears, worries and doubts can immobilize us and send us into retreat, we must be able to look the beast directly in the eyes if we are to become all we are meant to be. Cleveland found Story and his purpose - he was saved by Story, his Story. Quite simply, he became complete - coming to terms with his past, navigating through his pain and torment of the grief and loss of his family; by finding his purpose and story.
M. Night tells us this story, his story - (a bedtime tale for his two daughters), in order to help us find and recognize our purpose and story.
