Review of Lady in the Water (2006) by Francis B — 08 Apr 2018
Despite what you may have heard, this is an amazing film. If you're not secure enough to watch a modern-day fairy tale, then it's not for you. But if you are in touch with your inner child, you will be impressed.
After reading a lot about this movie, the two biggest complaints I saw were that Shyamalan was too egotistical and that the movie was poorly put together. For the former, Shyamalan isn't the main character, and if you didn't know who he was, you would never guess he was the director.
How many other directors are the lead actors in their movies? That's not a valid criticism. The real reason for all the hatemongering is the movie is a slap in the face to all film critics -- he literally kills one off in the movie for their arrogance.
If it were me, though, I would do more than slap the critics. The Last Jedi has, right now, a 91% rating from critics, and a 47% rating from the audience. Clearly a bunch of buffoons. They got the hate train going, and after that, all the viewers trying desperately to exterminate their childhood just kept it moving.
