A confidently-mounted coming-of-age portrait that's both impressively-acted and wittily-scripted, and would please fans of films by the acerbic Noah Baumbach. This is as much a showboat for first-time director Greta Gerwig as a star-making turn for the always underrated Saoirse Ronan.
