Review of Lady Bird (2017) by David H — 29 Oct 2018
This seriously overrated film was better when it was called "Whip It" and was about the liberating rebellion of women's roller derby. Instead, in Lady Bird we see a spirited young woman's slow descent into conformity that ultimately quashes even her self-given name.
Any feminist should be furious about this film, as it seems to champion the act of an independent woman ultimately yielding to what everyone else wants her to be and treats this like a good thing. It was depressing to watch.
