Review of Lady Bird (2017) by Eric R — 05 Jan 2018
2/5 stars.
My guess is this is the sort of movie that I will diverge pretty strongly from some people on.
I found it to be boring and pointless and uninteresting. I didn't hate it. But I did find it to be pretty blah.
And this is even when it had an advantage going for it. It is set in Sacramento close to where I grew up so there could have been a nostalgia element (I did cheer when they showed a "Kings Forever" sign) but even that didn't make it interesting.
One thing I found to be really odd about the movie was the directorial style of really short (5 second) cuts flashing through the plot. At times it felt like it was very superficial and you kinda wondered what was going on. This wasn't the whole film but it was really noticeable in parts.
