Marking Greta Gerwig's directorial debut, "Lady Bird" shows she has a very bright future in directing movies. While its not the most original movie, "Lady Bird" is well executed and will be recognized as one of the best coming of age movies of the 21st century. Asides from Gerwig's direction, what really carried this movie though was the screenplay and the two central performances/chemistry between Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf.

Written by Greta Gerwig, "Lady Bird" script feels honest and authentic. In what could have been a unbearable teenager character, Ronan brings a sense of joy to the role that radiates off screen. While Metcalf brings a warmth to what could have been a one note character. I also found the editing to be very well done. Coming in at 93 minutes, "Lady Bird" never feels slow and moves along smoothly.

Overall, "Lady Bird" marks a great directorial debut that makes me very excited for Greta Gerwig's future films.

Final Score: 4.25/5 or 8.5 out of 10.
