Review of Labor Day (2013) by Sandy B — 27 Jun 2014
What a deeply disturbing movie...weaving sexuality and danger and romance and borderline incest and of course my favorite line from Josh Brolin "I'm here to save you". I love Kate Winslet and she was her usual amazing self.
But this movie started dark and stayed dark all the way through. Not a fan. TRhis i8s one of those movies that romanticizes the danger...we don't know if he's an ax murderer but we know he sensually ties her up and she's complicit.
Women get these messages all the time: He's dangerous but don't trust your instincts and he seems so nice so ignore the obvious. The feminist in me threw up in my mouth a little.
