Review of Labor Day (2013) by Jennifer M — 02 Apr 2017
Weak storytelling is a understatement when it comes to Labor Day. Wooden acting, clunky plot devices, and horrendously un-subtle manipulation tactics (drowned baby?) make this film unwatchable. If any doubt about the quality of this film remains, let me point you in the direction of a strangely long scene of pie-making and a Betty Crocker worthy moment watching said pie baking.
It feels like the director didn't know how to fill the time, and thus we are compelled to endure scenes of fluff, misplaced pubescent awakenings, and serious Stockholm Syndrome. This movie underwhelms.
