Edith Piaf. You've probably heard some of her music, but if you're American like I am, you probably don't know a thing about her. Marion Cotillard shows us the person that Piaf was in this French biopic. She's definitely an interesting character, and Cotillard brings an energy to the role that won her an Academy Award. Piaf lived quite a tragic life, but she still lived it with fervor and determination; Cotillard allows this to rise to the surface much like the real Piaf seemed to do.

The film itself is entertaining, but the jumps back and forth in the timeline seem a little unnecessary. It made some plotlines and characters more difficult to follow, but maybe it's because I'm not a native French speaker.

Not the best filmed biography of a musician, but Piaf was an amazing singer with an amazing life, and this film tells the story to a whole new set of people who may not have known about it.
