Review of La Strada (1954) by Mitch P — 05 Feb 2008
A masterpiece of storytelling and craft. Fellini's last true dance with neorealism is beautiful and moving. Masina's performance evokes the best of Chaplin and the silent era, and Quinn's performance as the brutish Zampano is vivid and haunting.
The story is sad and funny, and it holds deeper insights that it intially lets on. I prefer Fellini's later phatsamagorias to the realist approach that is employed here, but "La Strada" is a classic of Eurpoean art cinema and a must-see for film fans.
