Review of La Strada (1954) by Reiyan B — 22 May 2008
The American Academy dismiss films from outside the US even today, but 1954 was the time they could not ignore the brilliance coming from European films.
Critics love to argue over La Strada being The Masterpiece by Fellini: the extra ordinary performance of Giulietta Masina, the lyrical images of Fellini, the distinctive and affecting score from Nino Rota. I think La Strada, with its combination of simple fable and intense, almost magical emotionality, catches and holds modern audiences in ways Fellini'Â?Â?s better-known and more financially successful movies, La Dolce Vita, Nights of Cabiria, 8 1/2 never could.
