Review of La Strada (1954) by John P — 07 Oct 2008
Wow, what an absolutely depressing movie. Not in the "I'm going to cry my eyes out" sort of way, but in a "wow, the world truly sucks sometimes" kind of way.
This film breaks my Fellini cherry, so I can't really compare it to others. Mike Bober tells me its his best, and judging on the quality, it seems like a film that could be considered "best" for this dude. Anyway, Nino Rota's score is haunting, sad, and beautiful all at once, and the acting is great all around, especially the two leads. It's interesting to see a big name like Anthony Quinn act well in a "foreign" film.
I liked it a lot. I guess you should, too. It may be depressing, but beautifully so.
