Review of La Strada (1954) by Ojas V — 25 Feb 2009
What a great film, about a brutish circus performer, who takes on a young plain girl as his protege. You can see how he can rip apart anything good in his life, simply because of his attitude toward humanity.
I was curious as to why he was so cynical, and that was not answered. The girl whom he takes as his helper is very sweet, and there are quite a few funny moments in this movie. Her character is almost an homage to silent performers like charlie chaplain.
The ending is quite tragic, but in Zapado the circus performers life, it was bound to end in misery.
