Review of La Dolce Vita (1960) by Christian L — 27 Apr 2008
A sad depiction of dissipated lives, of lost opportunities to grasp and embrace the beauty of life. Fellini shows the viewer the beauty of the world the characters neglect in their quest to purely live in the moment, a life where loyalty is meaningless, where passion is lost, where serious talk is dismissed and only trivialities are entertained.
..this movie is full of little "short stories"...I would say it's like taking all of Hemingway's Africa short stories and cramming all of them into a long film...and the last scene at the beach with the fishermen and young Paola is sad.
..how Marcello is pulled back into the fold of declining morality...
