Review of La Dolce Vita (1960) by Zak L — 04 Mar 2009
Fellini fleshes out the film's main character, Marcello, by placing him in binds with friends, lovers, a suicidal girlfriend, a father he rarely sees, and among his inhuman and unrelenting paparazzi cohorts. La Dolce Vita is photographically beautiful, and although three hours usually makes for a damn long film, this one rarely overstays its welcome. It wouldn't be terribly interesting to a modern American audience--we are very removed from the characters' customs--but Fellini sure as hell knows how to build a scene.
