Review of La Dolce Vita (1960) by Jake G — 15 Oct 2009
I think I'm hooked on foreign films for good.
Now that I've seen LA DOLCE VITA, I can personally attest to the film's multi-layered brilliance, to Fellini as a god, to Marcello Rubini's skill as an actor, etc...
And I can add another film to my list (blog coming soon, perhaps?) of films that challenge you intellectually.
Because from the get-go, you can tell this movie is solid gold. You may need to rest your eyes midway through, but the length never seems excessive.
And as Alexander Payne observed in his eloquent introduction, LA DOLCE VITA contains more than one central element. There is humor, tragedy, beauty, ugliness, hope, despair, life, and death...to name just a few.
