A womanizer who is never satisfied Marcello searches for love in numerous types of women. Some foreign and naturalistic, nymphomaniacs, adulterers and some truly monogamous. As Marcello wanders through love and dissatisfaction his pessimism grows and a dramatic change in his closest friend Steiner--one whose love and family he idolized takes a dramatic turn and Marcello realizes like the audience we never truly know a person, it's all fiction and pageantry.
Fellini's fine but massive film for its time still holds up over 50 years after its debut and is mandatory viewing for lovers of foreign cinema, the 1960s and Fellini's work. First time rating: 9.
