Review of Kurt & Courtney (1998) by Alexander C — 30 Mar 2008
After Interviewing Various Cobain associates in an attempt to examine the unexplained circumstances surrounding the singer's apparent suicidal, the acclaimed documentarist, Nick Broomfield, suddenly finds progress obstructed by Courtney. Love, now a Hollywood actress and musician in her own right, could be somehow implicated in Kurt's untimely demise.
There's something not quite right about this documentary. The subject matter is interesting, the people involved are quirky and entertaining, but overall it falls flat of achieving anything.
I suppose the above can be put down to Courtney Love's complete lack of co-operation for this project, from refusing the use of Kurt's songs to contributing to withdrawals from financiers, one message gets through loud and clear in this film, Courtney Love certainly is a piece of work. Worth a watch for Cobain fans but don't expect to take anything away from it.
