Review of Krull (1983) by Jeffrey P — 21 Nov 2011
A gigantic black space castle (inhabited by a monstrous Beast and his armored crustacean Slayers) plonks down on a medieval world and starts wreaking havoc. It's up to young king Colwyn (Ken Marshall) and princess-queen Lyssa (Lysette Anthony) to team up with the usual band of misfits and tidy things up.
Fantasy-adventure strains toward Erroll Flynn while clinging tightly to the "Star Wars" template - unfortunately, it's not all that successful on either count. There's some interesting bits: production designer Stephen Grimes clearly has fun designing the fortress interiors, ranging from Giger-esque corridors to a chamber consisting of an enormous eye.
On the whole, though, not much really coheres.
