Review of Krull (1983) by Peter W — 27 Jan 2015
Where does one start with Krull? I mean, it's largely poorly acted, scripted with that "George Lucas" touch, and is generally all over the place. (But it still gets two stars, because it recalls a slightly less cynical Hollywood that was still prepared to fail in a go-for-broke kinda way. And Lysette Anthony looks quite nice).
But no, let's concentrate on our leading man, Ken Marshall. A man who somehow managed to use the launching pad of the starring role in a mega-budget fantasy epic to propel himself to the even greater heights of playing "Chuck" in an episode of Baywatch, or "Convener" in The Gods Must Be Crazy II. Notice how other participants, such as an embarrassed looking Liam Neeson and Robbie Coltrane, have also gone on to obscurity. Oh, hang on, they haven't. Anyway, watch this film and see why; Mr Marshall's acting style leaves him constantly mortally endangered by termites.
But maybe he was on a hiding to nothing. Playing a character called Prince Colwyn? What kind of name is that? We can only assume that Duke Rhyl and Baron Prestatyn were busy elsewhere.
