Review of Krepkiy Oreshek (1968) by Isaac B — 24 Feb 2015
Holy fuck. If you've seen my profile (I doubt it) then you know this is my favorite movie. I do believe it is hard to pick a favorite, yet I happily announce this is my favorite movie. John McClane is the epitome of a badass I don't care what anyone says.
This should be the blueprint for all action movies because John McTiernan hit the dog on the nose. Protagonist: human; relatable; has everyman struggles; is scared; does not want to be the hero; on his own with almost no help; and so on and so forth.
He is the perfect protagonist basically. Antagonist: Perfect counterpart to antagonist; also human; also has struggles; shares similarities with McClane; is Hanz Gruber; is the best villain of all time.
If you even half like action movies, you are doing yourself a dis-service by not watching this film. Many action movies over the years have made it their goal to go above and beyond this original epic and all have failed.
It has spawned a catchphrase to describe other action movies Ex. "Die Hard on a boat," "Die Hard on a train." Another factor that makes this movie strive is its re-watchability factor.
Man, I can watch this over and over and never get bored. It's that good. I hate when people say it's a bad film but men just like it because it is badass because it is far from bad. The script may lack at times but the overall movie has more hidden accolades that I can write five pages describing.
It is truly the best action film of all time and definitely a memorable one.
