Review of Kontroll (2003) by Craig E — 16 Jul 2007
There is so much to like about this little film that it is hard to ultimately call it lacklustre. The humor and the direction is certainly top notch and it is no wonder that the unknown Hungarian director of this film has been picked up by Hollywood to do bigger things.
But, it is a film that can't decide what it wants to be. Is it a serial killer horror in the vein of 'Psycho'? Is it a comedy drama like 'Trainspotting'? It never decides. And because of it, the film is just there.
And in the end none of the characters is much further along than they were in the beginning. Which begs the question, what's the point of watching the film? Sadly, there's really not much point.
