Review of Kontroll (2003) by Christine — 26 Dec 2008

Often I will state that I prefer foreign films over American films for two reasons. One, the majority of American films are made for the purpose of making money. Do we really need 4 Shrek films? Naturally there are several examples to the contrary each year, but they seem to grow seldom in numbers as the years progress... of they wait till the end of the year for Oscar season. And two, you rarely find an original idea or character in the majority of American films. Neither of these reasons really go with my opinion of this movie, I just felt like getting that off my chest.

I first saw Kontroll in my freshman English composition class at college. I've forgotten my professor's reasoning behind showing the film, but it instantly clicked with me. The characters are rich and unique. The battle between good and evil in the protagonist is genuine. The setting becomes a character in itself. There is so much to this movie that trying to explain it... well I would just suck at that. I will only say, go and see this movie as soon as you can.

And don't give me the excuse that you don't like reading your movies. For that I will smack you!

Rating: better than sex!
