Review of Kontroll (2003) by Alex V — 18 Aug 2010
6.3/10 --.
Set entirely in a Hungary underground metro-system, "Kontroll" is already a pretty unique movie. We follow a haggard ticket inspector as he struggles with his thoroughly symbolic demons. Stuff ensues. Stuff that's cryptic but meaningful in some vague way, and if you care enough, one could probably draw some satisfying conclusions. Only problem is, that's all there is in terms of plot. Sure there's a guy pushing people in front of trains, and the scenes involving the ticketing of uncooperative passengers are pretty hilarious, but most of the time we're just watching our fearless hero mope around a subway system to an admittedly good soundtrack.
