Review of Kong: Skull Island (2017) by Mark S — 20 Mar 2017
It is easy to say, "Well it is just a giant monster movie, you don't come for the human characters.", and yes that is true. But the truth is Kong: Skull Island tries to lay some ground work for interesting human characters, but fall flat on its face so fast that the come off as even more one dimensional that your standard monster movie cast.
Riley, Goodman and Jackson all try their best but are given very little to work with given the material. Brie Larson, who is also usually a good acting talent, comes across as a character that is honestly only there because Kong needs a woman to connect with.
Honestly this film only exists to set up yet another bloated cinematic universe, and hopefully make enough money to give fans hope to see the classic Kong Vs. Godzilla fight get a shiny new remake too.
