Review of Kong: Skull Island (2017) by Jeremiah F — 08 Dec 2018
Kong: Skull Island is fun, action-packed, and big, with impressive vfx work and creature design. Samuel L. Jackson is spot on, as always, but Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson are noticeably weak, though there's not much they can do with their awkward dialogue.
Reilly is hilariously over-the-top and overall a very amusing presence. Kong himself is... great. The great ape's cgi is simply amazing and seeing him duke it out with an equally well-rendered skullcrawler is the definition of a good time.
Jordan Vogt-Roberts, though, is the real star and his direction makes this movie a visual feast, alongside Larry Fong's cinematography and Henry Jackman's score.
