Review of Kong: Skull Island (2017) by Connor M — 29 May 2017
I was not planning on giving this film a shot in the theaters, but my dad was very happy with his first viewing, so I decided to give it a shot. This is the second film in the mega-monster franchise, with Godzilla being the first film.
I haven't gotten around to seeing Godzilla yet, but after seeing Kong I'm looking forward to seeing Godzilla when I can. Kong ended up being a fantastic adventure on the bizarre Skull Island. This movie has a stacked cast, and most of them do their part in satisfying me as a watcher.
The direction and editing was in your face throughout the whole film which I found to be not as annoying as I thought it would be. Although the cast was solid, there were some actors that I would've liked to have seen used more efficiently, but I digress.
I thought the score was quite amazing, and the songs in the soundtrack were used effectively as well. The scenes with Kong were fantastic right from the get-go, and the CGI that went into Kong was incredible.
The only gripe was some of the jokes falling flat, but it did its job otherwise. I thought this film was very fun for the whole family, and it will be one of my favorite movie experiences that I go through all year.
