Review of Knives Out (2019) by Creeper3455 — 08 Dec 2019
I’ll be doing a riot if this movie doesn’t win Best Ensemble at the Critics’ Choice Awards.
What 2019 has taught me in movies is that you can make even the biggest of blockbusters 5 Hours, and still be like “Well, that went by fast…”.
Because, clocking at 2h10’, Knives Out is not only a damn good time but, even for me not being one with a big mind on Mystery Flicks, I was still on the edge of my seat for whatever would happen next.
And it’s all thanks to the big cast full of big names like *insert actor’s/actress’ name here*, as they all do a great job playing each family member the investigators have to interrogate.
Daniel Craig was awesome in a campy way (playing this investigator who feels like he always has a blast whenever he’s solving **** and whenever Ana De Armas was onscreen, I wanted to hug her so bad. And Christopher Plummer literally played my Maths teacher, so that was some ****.
This cast was basically composed of people who:
I wanted to hug real bad.
I really want to be friends with.
Were just there for Comedy Purposes.
Of course, this is a Rian Johnson movie, so be ready to get your expectations “subverted” for Plot Twists and everything (even though a Mystery flick is good territory for Johnson to shoot you some plot twist to the head)... Maybe even in the smallest of moments. For instance, the beginning of the movie feels like it’s supposed to have a lady screaming to a dead body, but no. She just stands there, looking at the corpse….
And, as mentioned, not one with Mystery schtick, but for being a Mystery Movie, it was also both charming and bittersweet in a way. And the last shot was basically a **** all of you”, but in a great way. Probably the most hilarious way to end your movie and earn that ending. Man, the hits just keep coming and coming for Rian Johnson, and I can see a real bright future for him as a Writer/Director. Yes, even if he ripped the Star Wars fanbase in Half (believe me, it needs an H this big). I’ll be exquisitely sitting here, looking forward to whatever he’ll be doing next.
Also, Greatnana Wanetta FTW.
