Review of Knightriders (1981) by Bobby L — 10 Apr 2010
Romero's got a knack for combining several types of genres, usually into a fulfilling movie. Here, easily one of the most original films ever made, it's a hodgepodge that never quite gets off the ground. The action scenes are quite good. The stunts, and there are plenty, feel real and are expertly done. The acting from all is pretty solid, with Ed Harris leading the way and kicking all sorts of ass.
There are several odd edits, that jar you out of what you have seen. Not bad, exactly, but there is no segue way from one scene to the next in these, and since several scenes last at least 5 minutes too long, you're never sure when the scenes will end.
The music is very good. The script has some great bits, but a lot of it is pretty silly, which isn't a bad thing, but since the movie veers from romantic drama, small town comedy, corrupt law official, and several others, the silliness only seems greater because of it.
