Review of Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985) by Jon G — 08 Jun 2008
Argentinian director Hector Babenco's first english language film showcases at its heart two deft and moving performances by William Hurt and Raul Julia. We meet Valentin and Molina in a South American prison, Valentin a political prisoner and Molina a homosexual accused of advances on a minor.
In their cell, Molina spins stories inspired by his love for old German film. As the social unrest outside their prison heats up, the men come to understand and care for one another. A powerful story with a star-making performance by Hurt as the flamboyant but vulnerable Molina.
