Review of Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV (2016) by Jacob B — 21 Sep 2017
The visuals are undeniably amazing and the main three actors' vocal performances are decent. And luckily for me, this movie is a prequel meaning I don't have to worry about the story involving the boy band from the game and can treat this as a stand-alone movie.
Sadly, this video game movie is no different from the terrible low-budget video game movies of the '90s despite incredible photorealistic animation that might make a Pixar staff member jealous. And at a budget of $20 million, too! The plot is muddled, the editing is terrible, the action sequences are more confusing and exhausting than half the ones in the Bayformers movies thanks to the power of crappy editing, Lena Headey's character is nothing more in this movie than a damsel in distress and it's ultimately nothing more than a nearly two-hour long cutscene for Final Fantasy XV that precedes the game before a Marvel-style stinger sets the events of the game into motion.
I can't believe I'm saying this but I prefer The Spirits Within over this Final Fantasy movie since I still haven't watched Advent Children. Lovely to look at but not as much to actually watch.
A shame too. I was really hoping that I would like this movie. Damn.
