Historical inaccuracies aside, the film is far better than other post millennium epics (Troy and Alexander) although suffers from the same weakness in leads. Having said that the supporting cast is great, in particular Edward Norton who steals every scene.

In terms of direction, it is supported by Scott's typical measured coolness and does a fine job of embedding social commentary.
