Review of Kingdom of Heaven (2005) by Johan S — 16 Oct 2011
I think this movie has been misunderstand as one that is supposed to include "depth." It's an Orlando Bloom / Ridley Scott film. Sure, it's a historical epic, that doesn't mean it should be viewed as high art. It's a spectacle, one that doesn't need "depth." It's a very good war film that somehow reminds us of artful masterpieces such as Alexander Nevsky while at the same time letting us know that it is a Ridley Scott flick. The battle sequences, especially the siege of Jerusalem, are incredible. It may not have much modern significance, but who needed it to? This film drew a line in the sand between peacetime and wartime for me. A good film, misunderstood and very underrated in my opinion.
6.5.
