Review of King of New York (1990) by Thomas M — 26 Oct 2009
This movie made me gain respect for two very powerful actors I never fully appreciated before this movie. Christopher Walken and Laurence Fishburne. Wesley Snipes was pretty good as well. I'm a huge gangster-movie fan so I obviously loved this one. At first it seemed like a Godfather ripoff but as the plot unraveled. The character of Frank White is one to remember. His sleek style, iron-determination, witty humour, solid confidence, admirable altruism and quick trigger-finger all contributed to building one of the best gangster movie gangsters of all time. He was pretty much like a gangster Robin Hood. The script was brilliantly written the directors knew what they were doing. The camerawork, lighting and general cinematogrophy were all top-notch. All the shootouts were stunning as well. Sure some parts of it were a little recycled, but all-in-all it was a superb film.
"I'm not your problem, I'm just a businessman.".
-Frank White.
