Review of King of New York (1990) by Jeff T — 23 Aug 2013
I'm not a big fan of gangster films, but this one was a lot of fun. It's very violent and full of great characters.
Walken is pretty great as the sleazy mob boss, but I felt Fishburne actually stole the show here. The way his character ends in this film is just a hoot. Add in Snipes and Caruso as the biggest dirty slimebag cops, and there are times you almost root for the bad guys!!!
The action scenes are very violent like I said, and there is one shootout in a club that leads to a long car chase, to a one on one kind of shootout. Some of the way these guys die is so amazing and being a bloody gangster flick, many people die.
Steve Buscemi in an early role, sadly just vanishes after the first scene. Can anyone explain what happened to him? I assume a scene got cut there.
The cinematography on this one was really nice.
