Review of King of New York (1990) by Svtdemon — 14 Jul 2008
Good movie that could've been a lot better with some editing. There's a lot of scene transitions that go on too long and don't do much overall. I like the Italian cinema feel of these, but they're just sort of filler.
And some of the character scenes are weak, as is a lot of the dialogue. But, the good parts are great, and altogether make this a worthwhile film. The plot is pretty interesting (about a few cops who can't hold charges on a few select drug kingpins, so they take matters into their own hands and simply try to gun them down and cover it up).
Christopher Walken is good, but a little odd here. There's something about his timing that's a bit off, and it seems like he's sort of playing by numbers. But he's good. And the Schooly D soundtrack really propels the movie.
Also, lots of cool, dark colors that stay in your mind. Pretty decent stuff.
