Review of King of New York (1990) by Spyros T — 21 Feb 2012
A very stylized gangster flick. All the night time scenes when combined with this 80's synthesizer score are a joy to watch, it is rare to encounter such a feeling from dark scenes and shadows in modern day films, were digital video filmmaking is growing rapidly.
Great performances by Lawrence (Larry??) Fishburne and Caruso, it's a shame that Caruso is stuck the last few years playing this appealing and wooden character in the CSI series, the guy can, or at least back then could act! Also, nice to see Walken in a lead role, him and Joe Pesci are two of the very few actors that could pull out a funny and equally tragic at the same time character.
If you put aside Bad Lieutenant, this is without a doubt Ferrera's best film, and one of the best gangster films.
