Review of King of Hearts (1966) by Dan G — 26 Mar 2009
This film is practically overloaded with delight, whimsy and heart; it could burst at any moment like the bomb Alan Bates is sent to diffuse and take you with it. This is one of my all time favorite movies, and it is one of the greatest multi purpose movies ever made.
Depending on how one chooses to look at it, it could be just a madcap comedy but how can you stop there when there's such rich anti-war and 'the world is crazy, not us' messages in here to be had also; and all of it without being overbearing and hamhanded as it would be were it done today? The characters in this movie are all well rounded and endearing.
There's really nothing in the film to dislike except that it eventually ends.
