Review of King Kong (1933) by Mark L — 10 Nov 2012
"Oh, no, it wasn't the airplanes. It was Beauty killed the Beast.".
Very touching film; or as Quentin Tarantino would say, a commentary on the slave trade. As with the 2005 Peter Jackson remake, this movie had a slow start but continually picked up its pace right till the end. As an entertainment spectacle, I give it the full 5 stars. For its influences and importance in cinema, I give it 5 stars. But it does not have proper character development (which the Pete Jackson film absolutely nailed), and some minor plot developments (such as a train coming to a sudden halt, but the people inside are still screaming and scrambling) were rather silly (one does not simply change the laws of physics). Those quibbles aside, I still think it's of the greatest films ever made and a must-not-miss.
