Review of King Kong (1933) by Raven D — 28 Jan 2018
Very cool story, with interesting elements (the movie, the island, the natives, Kong...). It could have been a truly timeless classic if it was better directed. There's not a lot of cheese here but when the "I think I love you" (ugh) scene comes around, you inevitably think, "ahhh, here we go...".
The effects are ok but Kong's facial expressions are ridiculous at times. The movie itself is nothing special visually, but the lagoon dino chase is well done, and for me, that shot of the girl tied up against the black background, while they close the doors, is the single best thing, visually speaking, in the entire movie. It's all about the story, but a solid and interesting one doesn't make a 10/10 movie.
P.D.:It's interesting how the girl, which is beautiful, looks like Naomi Watts (I mean Naomi looks like her hehe).
