Review of King Kong (1933) by Mark B — 01 Mar 2015
A special effects masterpiece with an average (to mediocre) cast. Watching Kong fight against other huge creatures like T-Rex and a snake were incredible moments, while the romance between two of the leads and the film director's laughable, over-the-top line deliver were significantly weaker.
I didn't really like the ending, because I felt a lot of sympathy toward this gorilla who had essentially been kidnapped and then murdered because he was confused by his surroundings and protective of Wray's character.
Nevertheless, this film set the standard for special effects, and is truly a watershed moment in film-making.
