Review of Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949) by Ann R — 31 Mar 2008
A wicked little black comedy that starts slowly and builds to a sublime finish. Alec Guinness is fabulous in a number of roles portraying an entire family (including a suffragette!), and Dennis Price more than holds his own as the scheming, duplicitous, would-be Duke imprisoned for murder.
The Criterion disc also has an alternate ending for the American market, which is useful as a curiosity only.
